Part 1. How to Take Panoramic Pictures with iPhone
Depending on the version of the iOS and the version of the iPhone that you have, you might have different options to taking a panoramic picture. In spite of smaller differences, all iPhones that are capable of taking a panoramic picture share the similar processes. You can take panoramic pictures only with iPhone 4s and later models. The option was not available up to iPhone 4.
Below is a step by step description to taking a good panoramic picture with your iPhone.
- Select a place which you want to take the panoramic picture.
- Select a starting location start recording the panorama.
- Stand in a stable and suitable location.
- Open up the camera application in your iPhone.
- Go to options and select panorama (the options are under different names in different versions of the iOS).
- You will be asked to select the direction of the panning; select left to right or right to left.
- Tap on the shutter button to start recording.
- Move your iPhone steadily and slowly towards the selected direction.
- Do not move your iPhone up and down; this will reduce the image quality.
- Once the beginning frame comes into view again panorama completes (if you want to stop in the middle of the process, you can tap the shutter button again and the panorama will stop where you stopped it.).
- Preview your photo just like you would preview any other photo in your iPhone.
- You can edit your panoramic photo as you would with any other photo.
- To have the full panoramic view, flip the iPhone sideways.
The taking of the panoramic picture is a sort of skill. If you have an artistic skill and wanted to get a good panoramic picture, then you have to select the location where your iPhone is going to be. One important thing in taking pictures with your phone is the light in the scene. Since phones don't provide enough light to lit up an open scene you have to select a time when there is ample light.
While recording panorama, you have to pan your iPhone as slowly as possible. The slower the movement of your iPhone, the better the quality of the panorama will be. One thing not to do during a panorama capture is to move your iPhone vertically or up and down. Up and down movements will disturb the quality of the top and bottom edges of the picture. A free iPhone app that is designed to make panoramic photos; this app is from Microsoft Corporation. App was updated in 2014. It holds 6.5 MB of space. It is available only in English. This app is compatible with many devices with iOS 5 or later versions.
4. DMD panorama
Available for $1.99, this application takes 4.8 MB of disk space. Last updated in January 2014, it is compatible with a few devices with iOS 6 or later.
