Apple, Inc. developed a software namely iTunes for Windows and Mac OS with which you can manage video and audio files linked to a large music database namely iTunes library. To keep your media files updated and to keep a backup for safety, you need to have some ways and means which must allow a perfect but easy-to-do methodology.
Syncing your iDevices with iTunes is the answer but how to do syncing and related questions, like which tools can be used to be comfortable managing music files, are all discussed in this article.
Finally, a detailed stepwise guideline is included as letting users understand capabilities of best in the market software that can immediately be tried for syncing iPhone with iTunes.
There are two ways to sync using iTunes. Syncing with USB cables. And syncing without cables i.e. over Wi-Fi network. Both have their own advantages and disadvantages. For larger files ‘without cables’ is speed dependent on network connection speed and so may take a bit longer but that saves the inconvenience of connecting cables. How to sync, both methods are described stepwise here below.
1 Sync your iPhone with iTunes via USB
Step 1. Connect your iPhone with computer using USB cable either (USB /lightning or UBS/30 pin) original supplied with the phone or any of third party cables which are comparatively robust, longer and offer many features as well.
Step 2. Open iTunes. Updated version is recommended. If everything goes fine, an icon will appear recognizing the type of device connected will appear on top, as indicated in screen here below.
Step 3. Clicking this icon, all the details about the device connected will appear. Also, the types of contents that can be synced will appear in the left pane of the window.
Step 4. Clicking any type e.g. music, the list of all available contents on PC, of this type (music) that are able to sync will be displayed listed. Look at top of page in tick-box next to Sync word, and type of content (music in this case). If it checked that means sync is ON, else check it to switch it to sync.
Step 5. Click all desired content types. Continue one by one clicking all the rest of desired contents types like movies, photos, podcast etc. along with setting syncing options for every content type required syncing. Now click Apply at the bottom right of the window. Wait for syncing to be completed and then unplug your phone. If syncing doesn’t start click SYNC.
2 Sync your iPhone with iTunes via Wi-Fi
Step 1. Connect for the first time. For the syncing process to start the first time, USB cables are required to be connected but subsequent syncing will set you free of connecting cables.
Step 2. Open iTunes and click phone icon, the same way as discussed above.
Step 3. To choose contents, tap on summary’ at top of left pane and then go to the right bottom block with heading ‘Options’. In tick box, now mark tick in tick-box next to ‘sync with this iPhone over Wi-Fi’. Now click Apply at the right bottom of the window. At this stage, the phone may be unplugged.
Step 4. Other contents syncing. Though the phone is unplugged but you can carry on choosing content types and various options to select different files for syncing, done as before. Finally, click SYNC.
Step 5. Next time your phone has to be on same Wi-Fi network for syncing (unplugged, of course), iTunes also to be ON and you may re-apply syncing options/parameters.
There can be several reasons we may need third party tools to help us sync iPhone to iTunes. Sometimes we face difficulty due to improper functioning of syncing with iTunes, may it be with cables or without cables. Top of all is the security system of devices other than Apple devices. The security system of a device may not let iTunes to even open, or may not let problem-free syncing. Security software can prevent iTunes to connect to Apple servers. Sometimes iPhone, iPod, or iPad are not recognized in iTunes due to security systems of such devices. Accordingly no backup or restore procedure work with iTunes syncing.
