Apple officially released its new flagship model, the iPhone 7. Nonetheless, the technological giant failed to enthuse its customers. In spite of all the new name, there are subtle changes in the new device. As reported earlier, Apple ditched the 3.5 MM headphone jack and made the new devices available in black colors. Samsung, on the other hand, made a good impact on its customers with the introduction of the Galaxy S7 Edge. It will be tough for Apple to woo customers its rival, the Korean smartphone maker. Let us look in detail at the differences between the two promising devices from the world’s leading technological giants.
The Galaxy S7 Edge from Samsung has a beautiful layout with metal and glossy finish. The use of the curved layout for the overall design gives it a good feeling in the hands. The curved design and the placement of the buttons on the sides make it a head-turning attraction while adding all the comfortability needed for a user.
The new iPhone 7 too screams premium with a glossy finish and noticeable changes to the overall layout. The antenna lines that were at the back now reside at the top and bottom, while the camera bump remains the same. Rather than a click sound, every confirmation now receives a vibration. The biggest change is the removal of the 3.5mm audio jack.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge hosts a plethora of new hardware components, which make the device an incredible runner in the world. A significant change is getting rid of the Qualcomm's Snapdragon to the in-house Exynoss 8890 chipset as against the Qualcomm’s 820 CPU. It arrives with eight cores with four running at 2.6GHz and the remaining at 1.59GHz. It offers incredible graphical experience due to the presence of Mali T880 GPU. It receives 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal space.
The iPhone 7 arrives with the new Fusion A10 chipset, which according to the company is 30% faster than its predecessor, the A9. Additionally, the A10 marks the entrance of the company to the quad-core segment, which promises the device to be a better battery performer than all other iPhone’s. The iPhone has 2GB of RAM and with different internal storage options.
Samsung paid good attention to its display. The S7 Edge flaunts a 5.5-inch Quad HD display with 2560x1440 with 534ppi pixel density. The use of the Super AMOLED added to the vibrant portray of pictures and videos, immersing the viewer to near-natural display. Samsung outsmarts Apple in this segment.
There were rumors that Apple will come out with OLED display. However, the company proved wrong and shipped the flagship models with IPS LCD. Additionally, the iPhone 7 now boasts a smaller display with a 4.7-inch screen with a pixel density of 326ppi. Apart from the introduction of the 3D touch, the display sees no innovation in comparison to other components. Of course, bigger resolution puts a toll on the battery, and we will have to wait until Apple finds a possible solution before it pumps the ppi.
Software comparison goes beyond a discussion – it is entirely a battle of belief. Both the operating systems have their share of good and bad. Nevertheless, at the end of the day, it is purely the user preference.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge runs on the latest Android Marshmallow. Considering its previous drawbacks, Samsung ensured that it provided a cleaner and better TouchWiz for the Edge. It bumped all the useful applications while erasing the unwanted, which were quite a contrary for its predecessor. A significant disadvantage is the absence of adoptable storage offered by Google. It would prove beneficial for users to move certain apps to their microSD card.
Apple ships the new iPhone 7 with iOS 10, the newest update to the operating system. The software manages to complement the hardware components on the device to deliver the best user experience. With fewer customization features, iOS is a reliable OS for those who seek consistency while sacrificing a few options. There has been quite a subtle change, but they add to the overall innovation of the iOS.
Samsung S7 Edge arrives with a 3,600mAh capacity battery, which does the job for a regular user. Of course, one will have to carry a power bank to recharge it twice in a day! The battery inevitably performs as a decent supplier of power, provided the screen size and the hardware. However, things change for a heavy user, with the number of hours operate-able falls drastically.
Apple, conversely, did not provide any details related to the capacity of the battery but stated that for regular use, the phone lasts for 14 hours, which makes us think that it hosts a 1715mAh battery. As it is new in the market, we will have to wait and see the real-life performance, for both an average user and a heavy user.
