As you may know, it is possible to use your iPod as a hard drive on your desktop and manually drag files from the latter to the iPod to copy them there. However, if you do this for music files, you will find that they will not play unless you import them to iTunes. The method I will now show will allow you to easily transfer your music collection to your iPod manually using iTunes on your PC or Mac. Follow the following steps:
Step 1 To get started, connect your iPod to your computer.
Step 2 Then open iTunes and make sure that you have the latest version of the program installed. The current version at the time I am writing this is itunes 12.
Step 3 Next you will need to locate your device. This can be quite tricky as it works differently for different devices. In itunes 12, locate it by clicking on its icon in the upper-left corner, as shown in the left illustration below. In iTunes 11, it can be done by clicking on the button in the upper-right corner that shows your device name. If you are using iTunes 10 or earlier, you can find your device in the iTunes sidebar (right image below)
Step 4 Afterwards, in the left sidebar, click Summary and scroll down to Options.
Step 5 Make sure that the "Manually manage music and videos" box is ticked and click apply. If you get a message that your iPod is synced with another library, you will have to erase all the iTunes content on your device before proceeding.
Step 6 Now, choose the music files that you want to add to your iPod from your iTunes library.
Step 7 Finally, to transfer music from computer to iPod, simply drag the content to your device and a panel should appear. Then drop the content on your device name and you are done.
This method can prove to be extremely time consuming if you music files aren’t properly organized due to the fact that you will have to locate them one-by-one and then import them into iTunes before you are able to transfer them to your iPod.
AnyTrans is an application developed by immobile and works on both Mac OS 10 and windows. It allows you to take greater control over your iOS device. It includes features for managing media, downloading and making copies of iCloud content, creating more complete backups and exporting information from the device. There is a feature that will allow you to use your iOS device, be it an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch almost like an external hard drive. What's most important to us is media management, which allows you to transfer music from your Mac or PC to your iPod and vice versa very easily. One cool feature is that you can add new music without deleting existing ones and it also does not require syncing.
Step 1. To get started, download and install AnyTrans on your computer.
Step 2. Connect your device to your computer via USB cable and open AnyTrans.
Step 3. Next click on the Audio button and choose Music.

AnyTrans is extremely to use but the problem is that every single music file takes at least 12 seconds to be transferred. This can really pose a problem if you have a large music collection or your music files take a lot of space.
So, there you have it. The 3 methods described should give you plenty of options to choose from whenever you want to transfer music from computer to iPod. The manual method is the cheapest option, though it can be extremely time consuming. AnyTrans is great and incorporates many features but the speed of transfer will surely upset you in the long run. So, I think that Wondershare TunesGo should be your first choice when doing this type of transfer. It not only saves you time but also has a multitude of features to securely transfer your music collection.
