Step 1: Visit androidsu.com/supersu and scroll down to look for Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip. You will have o download this into your SD card.
Step 2: Go to the link http://droidmodderx.com/dna to download the recovery file. You will need the recovery file before you are able to flash the superuser zip. Also, the phone will need to be in fast boot mode. The USB cable should also be plugged in before flashing. Once it is plugged in, you have to reboot the HTC Droid DNA. Hit restart and then hold down the Volume Down button.
Step 3: It might take a while so be patient. You can release the volume button once you get into the screen below.
Step 4: Hit the power button so that you can get into the fast boot mode. Once in the fast boot mode, you can now flash the recovery. For that, you have to first extract the recovery file you have downloaded beforehand
Step 5: Go to the folder where you have extracted the recovery file. While there, right click any white space and choose Run Command Prompt. You will have to input the command 'fastboot flash recovery DNA.TWRP.188.8.131.52.ing' and then hit ENTER.
Step 6: Close the command prompt after that and go back to the phone. Use the power button again to go to the Power Down option on the device's screen.
Step 7: Hold the Power button and Volume Down button to go into the bootloader mode. It should power up after that.
Step 8: Scroll down once using the Volume Down button to go to Recovery. Press the power button to enter recovery.
Step 9: You will now be directed to the TeamWin. Just choose install and then choose the zip folder. You will hve to find the superuser then.
Step 10: Swipe flash. The screen should then show the flash process. It should then show successful in the screen. Hit the Reboot System to reboot the device.
Step 11: Double check the completion of the rooting process. There should be a Superuser installed on the App then. This Superuser app will be useful for root management.
Step 12: Download the Root Checker app to verify that the root is successful. You simply have to go to Google Play Store, find Root Checker, and install.
Step 13: Once you initiate the installation, you have to drag down the notification bar so that you can find the Root Checker immediately. The status of the installation will also be shown there. It will also show the words Successfully installed if the app is already installed into the HTC Butterfly (Droid DNA).
Step 14: You will be prompted a disclaimer once you run the Root Checker. Read through the disclaimer if you want. After that, you have to tap the Agree button.
Step 15: You can then get inside the Root Checker app after that. Once inside the Root Checker app, you will see the Verify Root Access button. Tap that button to initiate the verification of the device's root access and then wait for the Root Check to be completed.
Step 16: The Root Checker Basic app will then request for Superuser access. To proceed, you should press on Allow.
And you are done! You should already have access to the root of your HTC Butterfly (Droid DNA). You can then download apps that are otherwise restricted by this Android device once you completed the root process.
